Civic Orchestra of Chicago
As a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Jackie performed with renowned artists such as Yo Yo Ma & Emmanuel Ax, and conductors Riccardo Muti, Jaap van Zweden. During her second year she served as Principal viola under the baton of Cliff Colnot. Because of Civic’s affiliation with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Jackie was able to take lessons with Principal Violist, Charlie Pikler, Assistant Principal Violist, Li-Kuo Chang, and section member Larry Neuman. She was regularly coached in sectionals by CSO members, in addition to orchestral master classes led by visiting artists to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra such as Michael Tilson Thomas and Jaap van Zweden.
As principal violist, Jackie had an amazing opportunity to work closely with the other string principals (most of whom were also members in the Allium String Quartet) on projects such as Yo Yo Ma’s Citizen Musician campaign. She performed for benefits and was often asked to speak on behalf of the Civic Orchestra. Featured as a string sextet on ABC’s Windy City Live, Jackie represented the ensemble as part of the house music. In addition to the performance opportunities and connections she made through the orchestra, it was an exciting place to learn a great deal of standard repertoire. It was a great honor for her to be invited back for a third season to participate in Yo Yo Ma’s Rivers Project.
Dubuque Symphony Orchestra
Jackie first earned a position in the viola section of the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra in Spring of 2010. She served her first year as acting Assistant Principal, and has spent the past 4 seasons as a member of the section. Under the baton of William Intrilligator, she has performed with artists such as Miriam Fried on the Beethoven Violin Concerto and Brahms Violin Concerto. Due to the orchestra’s smaller size, the focus is more on more chamber repertoire, which provides a nice balance to the larger ensembles Jackie regularly plays with.
Jackie thoroughly loves performing in an opera pit, and has had the opportunity to perform Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro & The Magic Flute, Puccini’s La Boheme, Verdi’s La Traviata, and the operettas The Gondoliers, The Mikado, Babes in Toyland, and The Land of Nod. In addition to perofrming the full length versions of Marriage of Figaro and La Boheme, Jackie has performed singular acts under the baton of Sir Andrew Davis and the Ryan Opera Singers.
